Our In-House Coffee Roastery

Roasted Above The Notch

✔ fair trade beans ✔ available onsite or in bags to go ✔ wholesale options

We began roasting coffee out of a deep passion for the intricate flavors and aromas that each bean can offer.

The journey started when Steve and I discovered the vast difference between store-bought coffee and freshly roasted beans. The rich, nuanced tastes and the satisfaction of controlling every step of the roasting process drew us in. We realized this needed to be part of our business model.

Roasting coffee is a way to connect with the art and science behind this beloved beverage and to share that experience with friends and family.

THE PROCESS

Roasting Equipment and Method

Roasted Above the Notch used a Diedrich IR-5 roaster, a high-quality piece of equipment that allows for precise control over the roasting process. This roaster is central to our operation, enabling us to produce a variety of roast levels and flavor profiles.

Sourcing of Green Beans

The roastery sources its green coffee beans from shade-grown, fair-trade suppliers, ensuring a commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. This approach aligns with the overall mission of The Place Above The Notch to support environmentally and socially responsible coffee production.

Community Involvement

Roasted Above the Notch is deeply rooted in the local community. We created the White Mountain Roasted Society to engage you in community tastings and seek feedback from our customers to ensure that our roasts reflect local tastes and preferences. This interactive approach helps in curating roasts that are tailored to the region's flavor profile. Email us to find out more about how to join the White Mountain Roasted Society!

Roasting Process and Quality

The roasting process is carefully managed by Steve Cleveland, our Bean Roasting Operator, to produce high-quality coffee. The beans are roasted every week, and orders are fulfilled with roasts that are between 1-7 days off roast, allowing them to degas and reach their optimal brewing state. The roastery aims to create roasts that are not only delicious but also reflective of the local culture and history.

Educational and Experiential Aspect

Customers have the opportunity to watch the roasting process firsthand, providing a unique and educational experience. This transparency and engagement help build a deeper connection between the customers and our coffee, aligning with the broader vision of The Place Above The Notch to foster community and appreciation for coffee.
